Perched above the iconic corner pub, this first-floor bistro is carpeted and typically peaceful at lunchtime during the week. A lift makes access easy, and you’ll find a mix of classic pub fare and historic charm.

Young & Jackson’s also offers a fantastic set lunch menu for $40, which includes crusty bread with balsamic and oil, a choice of four mains, a glass of wine, and a small sweet with tea or coffee to finish. It’s great value for a relaxed weekday lunch.

2. Pearson & Murphy’s – RMIT

Tucked away near Melbourne Central, this café has both indoor seating and a lovely outdoor courtyard.

3. La Camera – Southgate

Head upstairs at Southgate for quiet indoor seating and riverside views. La Camera is known for its Italian favourites, warm service, plus they offer a Seniors Card discount.

This is a peaceful oasis, close to the City Centre but positionally removed from the lunch-time crush. If you’re either walking from Docklands to Southern Cross Station or the CBD, or if you’re in town and would just like to avoid the midday crowds, then Gaylord Indian Restaurant is ideal.”

5. Farmers Daughters – Level 1 Restaurant

We ate at No35 at the Sofitel and although not carpeted, it was still quiet. The views over Melbourne made my heart warm. Melbourne is such a beautiful city—there’s no place like home.”

With tasty Thai cuisine, their enclosed terrace features artificial turf underfoot and plenty of space to spread out. While not carpeted, it’s generally quieter at lunch and has a laid-back feel.

We enjoyed the casual atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff, indoor or outdoor seating with river views, which was surprisingly quiet and comfortable.”

This iconic Cantonese fine dining restaurant has thick carpet, generous spacing, and impeccable service. It’s a splurge, and bookings well in advance are essential.
