About Us

Seniors in Melbourne is a travel and lifestyle publication dedicated to inspiring midweek adventures, practical travel tips and personal recommendations for exploring Melbourne and Victoria. You can use this website to research and plan fun outings in the city.

Recognised by the Victorian Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) as a Quality Tourism Accredited Business, it is the first and only Melbourne travel website to specifically target the over-60s community.

The publication is founded and edited by Amy Gardner, a tourism communications specialist who began the project as a way to spend more meaningful time exploring Melbourne with her parents. What started as weekly outings together has grown into a curated collection of experiences, stories and recommendations designed to make Melbourne more accessible and enjoyable for others in similar life stages.

My mission is to curate the best senior-friendly activities, encouraging others to embark on new adventures, connect with like-minded travellers, and rediscover the joy of exploring Melbourne’s diverse landscapes and communities.

My folks, Chris and Terrie, regularly contribute ideas and insights from their own adventures, alongside a growing network of community contributors who share their own experiences and recommendations.

Seniors in Melbourne is committed to showcasing active, engaging lifestyles in later life and to challenging outdated assumptions about ageing. We work with tourism and hospitality partners who share a commitment to accessibility, inclusivity and meaningful visitor experiences, helping support local businesses across Victoria.

Our values

Two things guide every decision we make: honesty over convenience, and respect over stereotype.

We disclose partnerships clearly, and if a non-commission option would genuinely serve you better, we’ll point you to it instead. And while our name says “seniors,” we’re not interested in tired assumptions about what that means. This is a space for curious people who want to enjoy the city and state on their own terms.

Our impact

Beyond the outings and articles, we try to put something back — into the community we serve, the local economy we’re part of, and the people who make this project what it is.

Each quarter, we partner with a Melbourne charity doing meaningful, on-the-ground work, sharing their story and raising support alongside our community. We maintain ongoing relationships with organisations like the Koorie Heritage Trust and Travellers Aid — not one-off features, but partnerships we keep coming back to. And we make a point of spending locally ourselves: from the team events we run to the suppliers and contractors we choose to work with.

Accessibility

Every outing we cover, and every tour we run, is shaped by real, lived experience — not guesswork. Several of our contributors live with mobility, hearing or health considerations themselves, and that shows up directly in what we recommend: quieter venues, honest notes on rest stops and access, and guides built around genuine need rather than assumption.
