Langham Melbourne Afternoon Tea Review: A Taste of Tradition & Elegance
High tea at The Langham: what we loved, menu highlights, pricing, and whether it’s the best high tea in Melbourne.
Stepping into The Langham, Melbourne for Afternoon Tea feels like slipping into another world. Beneath sparkling chandeliers and beside sweeping marble staircases, we are invited to enjoy a ritual that began at The Langham, London in 1865. More than 150 years later, the tradition lives on in Melbourne—refined, elegant, and with a contemporary flair.

Langham Afternoon Tea Melbourne review
The Langham Afternoon Tea is served in Aria Lounge, overlooking the grandeur of the hotel’s interior. It’s the kind of space that makes you want to linger: soft lighting, plush seating, and the gentle clink of teacups filling the room with quiet sophistication.
From the moment we arrive, it is clear this is no ordinary afternoon out.

Terrie’s review
I was absolutely thrilled to finally have High Tea at the Langham. I had heard from friends how special it is and special it was. The entrance, with marble staircase, chandeliers, mirrors, huge fresh floral arrangements, exudes warmth, welcome and an expectation of something exciting beyond. The dining area was beautifully presented with the table and chairs well spaced. No crowding, not noisy, just lovely. The staff were very attentive.
The afternoon tea was high-quality, flavorful and lavishly presented. The savouries on the bottom tier, the top tier of sweets, and scones with jam and cream were all very good. The little morsels of deliciousness might look small, but we were very satisfied when all eaten.
I chose Earl Grey Tea, my personal favourite, followed by a cleansing Rooibis to finish. A glass of champagne to start went down very happily as well.
The Langham has a colour, pink. I did not know this but by coincidence wore a pink jacket with pink bag, so felt very matchy matchy! haha. And of course I love wearing pearls to a High Tea.
Such fun, and this treat might be considered a little pricey, but for a special occasion it is lovely to be spoiled and feel quite decadent. A lovely experience.

Langham afternoon tea menu Melbourne
The high tea service begins with warm savouries, including comforting favourites like a bacon and onion tartlet and a perfectly crisp chorizo and sweet corn arancini.
The real star, however, is the savoury porcini and shiitake brûlée, topped with a delicate layer of cheese—a rich and unexpected treat.
Then comes the sweets. From a persimmon and pumpkin soufflé cheesecake to a saffron-spiced rice pudding with fig and apricot compote, every plate showcases the creativity of Executive Pastry Chef Markus Bohm and his team.

A strawberry and rhubarb pavlova added a playful, shareable touch, while flourless chocolate and gianduja slices satisfied the most devoted chocoholics.
Of course, no high tea is complete without scones. At The Langham, they arrive warm—vanilla and raisin, or chia seed if gluten-free—accompanied by house-made clotted cream and seasonal jam. It’s a nod to tradition that feels wonderfully familiar, yet indulgent.
As well as the food, we indulge in unlimited tea and coffee.

While we didn’t experience it ourselves, one reader says; “The gluten-free chia seed scones were especially impressive—not always easy to get right, but here they were light, tender, and full of flavour.”
