Kathy’s review

Our Yarra River gardens cruise was most informative and interesting for locals and keen visitors to Melbourne on a spring day. Seeing our city from a different perspective was fascinating, especially hearing of the changes to the river and its surrounds before and since white settlement.

The course of the river has altered over time, both naturally and deliberately. Thankfully, the beautiful historic bridges are continuing to be valued and carefully maintained for their architectural and practical significance.

Being an avid and frequent visitor to many of Victoria’s parks, my friend was especially pleased to see Parks Victoria’s site at the previous quarry being used up-stream for their current water resources. The organisation is doing very important and effective work keeping Melbourne’s showpiece clean of litter and maintaining the magnificent and varied bird and river life.

On show lining the banks were swans, cormorants, egrets and majestic red river gums.

The heart of Melbourne is certainly worthy of our respect and on-going care and these tours are a wonderful opportunity to help develop greater understanding and appreciation of our precious Yarra. It was another delightful way to discover more about our city.
