Visiting St Patrick’s Cathedral Melbourne
St Patrick’s Cathedral is one of Melbourne’s most striking landmarks and the largest church building in Australia. Located on the edge of the city in East Melbourne, just a short stroll from Parliament House and Fitzroy Gardens, it’s a place that combines breathtaking architecture with living history.

St Patrick’s Cathedral Melbourne
The Catholic cathedral is built in the Gothic Revival style, with construction beginning in 1858 and finally completed in 1939. Its three towering spires dominate the city skyline, while inside you’ll find soaring vaulted ceilings, beautiful stained-glass windows, stone carvings and quiet chapels that invite reflection.
Whether you step in for a few minutes or spend an hour wandering, the sense of grandeur and reverence is unforgettable.

Terrie’s review
Visiting St Patrick’s Cathedral in East Melbourne from a tourist point of view is very worthwhile. The architectural style is Gothic, the interior is breathtaking with its very high ceilings, stained glass, and lots of nooks to explore, always with that feeling of reverence and awe.
My husband and I decided to attend an early Sunday Mass and found the atmosphere very worshipful. Although a Catholic service is not what we are used to, there was a sense of peace and a feeling of faithful people worshipping for so many years in this place, which made for a very spiritual experience.
So from exploring the building as a tourist, to attending a worship service, both experiences are very worthwhile.
The Cathedral is wheelchair accessible.
