Terrie’s review
Visiting the Regent Theatre for the first time at 72 was such a special treat, thanks to my eldest daughter. We attended a matinee session, and as soon as we approached the grand building, I felt a buzz of excitement. The crowd, the huge promotional displays, and the lively atmosphere set the tone for something memorable.
The theatre itself was breathtaking. Sitting in the stalls and admiring the ornate ceiling and walls was an experience in itself. I was also glad to have been told beforehand that the songs in the production were different from those in the movie, which helped me enjoy the show without any expectations. The performances were fabulous—wonderfully sung, funny, and with a meaningful message. Absolutely loved it!
A little aside… As we entered the Theatre, we met a lovely senior lady with a walking stick, seated in a cosy chair, looking regal and happy. I spoke to her and discovered that with her daughter’s help, she often enjoyed trips to the Regent. Previously, they could park in a disabled spot right outside for 3-4 hours, but now with reduced spots and a 2-hour limit, it’s no longer practical. This time, they took the train to Flinders St and made the slow walk to Collins St. I thought this was worth mentioning for those with limited mobility.
