KaBloom Festival of Flowers: what to know before you go

Twelve acres. Millions of blooms. One very colourful autumn day out.

For a few short weeks each year, the paddocks in Silvan transform into rolling waves of colour as KaBloom Festival of Flowers returns from 21 March to 19 April 2026. The planting is complete, and the fields are quietly building towards peak bloom. This isn’t just a quick wander through a garden bed — it’s a full day out with flowers, live entertainment, food, space to roam and plenty for children (and dogs) too. If you’re planning a visit, here’s what’s worth knowing before you go.

What is KaBloom?

First and foremost, KaBloom is about scale.

We’re not talking about a garden bed or a few pretty rows. We’re talking about millions of blooms spread across 12 acres of flower fields, planted in sweeping waves of colour. The effect is immersive. You’re surrounded by it. Reds beside yellows. Pinks flowing into purples. Wide open skies above.

Set against the backdrop of the Dandenong Ranges, the views alone are worth the drive. It’s calm. It’s colourful. It’s feel-good.

I’d recommend allowing far more time than you think you’ll need.

Can’t make it this autumn? Mark your calendars for the Tesselaar Tulip Festival in spring.

Daily Circus Oz Performances

One of the standout features of KaBloom is that it isn’t just a walk through flowers.

Every day of the festival (not just weekends), Circus Oz performers bring energy and joy to the stage with live shows featuring incredible acrobatics.

These are real performers doing extraordinary things right in front of you. We absolutely love this element of the festival. The acts are upbeat and engaging, enjoyable for both children and adults.

Live entertainment runs daily, with expanded schedules on weekends, public holidays and throughout the school holidays.

It adds rhythm to the day — wander the fields, catch a show, grab a bite to eat, then head back out again.

Diane’s review

It’s not just the flowers — it’s the whole experience. The Dandenong air, the food, the music. We took our time wandering the gardens and various activities.

The kids loved exploring the fairy garden and attending story time. Another highlight was watching the Circus Oz performers.

The many food stalls offered lots of tasty options, including dietary options for me as a celiac. In fact, I had the tastiest gluten-free scones I’ve ever tried, and had to go back to buy more to take home! It was $10 for a giant scone, jam, cream, and a cup of tea. Marvellous!

A genuine family day out

KaBloom positions itself as “the ultimate family day out”, and it’s easy to see why.

  • Kids 16 and under are free (ticket required but no charge)
  • Children aged 2 and under don’t require a ticket
  • The festival runs daily, including public holidays and Easter Sunday

When you factor in the early bird buy-one-get-one-free offer (available until 13 March), it becomes remarkably good value for families.

With early bird pricing, you could feasibly:

  • Purchase one adult ticket (there’s no Seniors Card pricing)
  • Receive another adult ticket free
  • Bring children at no cost
  • Bring your own picnic
  • Bring the dog

It’s quite possible to create a full-day experience for under $50, which is increasingly rare for major events.

Terrie’s review

Went to the Kabloom Festival of Flowers and what a joy the whole day was.  The trip itself through the Dandenongs was so beautiful.  The treeferns and tall trees, windy roads and patches of morning fog.  Just an eager expectation of what was to come.

The rows of flowers, in mass plantings of autumn colours, were super spectacular!  It was quite a walk to the bottom of the garden, where the grandkids found a playground. Then onto the Ferris wheel, which, from up high, gave us a breathtaking view of the flowers, the brilliant colours and the pattern work could be much appreciated, which was not quite as obvious from ground level.

There were about 3 areas with food vans, lots of seating, and delicious food.  So many fun activities for children. I loved the fairy in the middle of the garden blowing the most enormous bubbles I’ve ever seen. There was also a separate Fairy Garden, again, a lot of fun to look at. I could have spent a long time there, always something more hidden under the trees to discover.

We had lunch while enjoying a show put on by Circus Oz.  Then a tractor ride around the property, where we could again get a good view of the rows of magnificent flowers. One of my favourite things was the thick Cyprus hedge around 3 sides of the property.  It gave a beautiful, cosy feeling of being protected and maybe a bit of an English Walled Garden vibe. I also appreciated the other garden beds with cottage-garden plants, as well as Sunflowers and Dahlias.

Gift shops and fairy shops proudly displayed so many beautiful items.  I settled for buying some daffodil bulbs, hyacinth bulbs and some freesias.

I found the toilets near the entrance to be the best for any mobility issues. And just a thought for those who would like to go on the Ferris wheel, it was a little tricky getting into the capsule/pod, as the doorway was a little narrow and there was no handrail as such. There was a round structure in the middle to hang on to, but then I did find it a little awkward to sit down on the low seat.  However, having said that, I loved the ride, and the view was certainly worthwhile.

The weather was sunny and lovely, and I am definitely making a date to revisit in Spring for the Tulip festival.  Thank you, Kabloom Tessellaar Flower Festival, for an outstanding experience.

Food and picnics

KaBloom is intentionally designed to be accessible and affordable.

You’re welcome to bring your own picnic, which is ideal if you prefer familiar food or are keeping to a budget.

Alternatively, food trucks serve a range of international flavours, along with sweet treats and coffee. There’s enough choice to suit most tastes without feeling overwhelming.

We notice that cash is accepted at most food vans. Credit card charges always have a surcharge, so having cash saves a bit of money.

Tractor rides

For a fun way to see more of the farm, hop on a tractor ride that loops around the festival grounds every 10–15 minutes. Purchase your tickets at the lolly shop near the maze on the day.

  • $5 per person
  • $15 for a group of four
  • Free for people with limited mobility and their carers

The tractor ride is an optional extra.

Note: There is one large step up into the tractor train, and friendly staff are available to assist. A ramp for wheelchair users is also available.

Accessibility and comfort

While KaBloom is set on farmland, the layout is generally manageable for visitors who prefer gentler walking. Paths are wide and mostly flat, though they can be uneven in places depending on weather conditions.

If you like to take your time, allow at least two to three hours so you can wander without feeling hurried.
