With a focus on free and low-cost events, the Victorian Seniors Festival has become an annual pilgrimage for older adults in Melbourne and beyond. It’s more than just a series of events; it’s an invitation to get active, try something new, and embrace the wealth of opportunities Melbourne has to offer. 

As well as great events and activities for seniors in Melbourne, Victorian Seniors Card holders receive a full week of completely free public transport across the state (exact dates for 2024 still TBA).

As the festival unfolds, let the spirit of curiosity unfold for an unexpected experience in the city. Melbourne truly is a great place to age, and the Seniors Festival is the golden ticket to unlocking the best that these golden years have to offer. 

With hundreds of events set to take place throughout Melbourne, the month-long Seniors Festival is an embodiment of community, connection, and celebration.

This year’s theme, “Explore. Engage. Evolve,” encourages seniors to stay curious and connected.

From 1 October to 31 October 2024, the city will be a canvas of vibrant colours, echoing the lively spirit of Melbourne’s senior community.

Victorian Seniors Festival Events 2024

Opening Gala Extravaganza (Dates TBC) – The festival kicks off with a spectacular Opening Gala at Federation Square, featuring live music, dance performances, and inspirational speakers. This event is a fantastic opportunity for Melbourne seniors to come together, share stories, and ignite the festival’s celebratory spirit.

Come ‘n Try Croquet – Ballarat Alexandra Croquet Club (Thurs 3 Oct 2024) – A free 2 hour session of croquet, learning the basics and playing croquet. Qualified coaching and mentoring from club members. An introduction to the game followed by morning tea. All access availability, no steps.

Seniors Festival Race Day (Sun 6 Oct 2024) – Mark your calendars and don’t miss out on a fantastic day of food, fashion, and thrilling races at the beautiful Apiam Bendigo Racecourse! Free entry for seniors. Wheelchair accessible via entrance ramp.

Bayside U3A Beaumaris Open Day (Wed 9 Oct 2024) – Try some fabulous U3A activities: Balance and Bones; TaiChi; Creative Writing; Mahjong; Petanque; Finska; Scrabble; Chess; Walking group; and more. Free event. Wheelchair friendly.

U3A Croydon Open Day (Mon 14 Oct 2024) – Come and join us for activities and check out our classes including exercise classes, music, painting, current affairs and sale of arts and crafts on the day. View class displays and demonstrations and chat with friendly tutors and members. BBQ, tea and cake available for gold coin donation. Free event.

Ability Fest 2024 – Naarm/Melbourne (Sat 19 Oct 2024) – A music festival designed for everyone to experience the magic of live music. A not-for-profit event, with all ticket revenue going directly to the Dylan Alcott Foundation.

Cultural Delights at Melbourne Museum (TBC) – From guided tours to interactive workshops, seniors can indulge in a cultural feast that spans art, history, and science.

Wellness Workshops for Mind and Body:

  • The festival places a strong emphasis on holistic well-being. Attendees can participate in wellness workshops that cater to both the mind and body. From meditation sessions to fitness classes, Melbourne seniors can explore new avenues for health and vitality.
