Shadowfax Wines Werribee
As you approach Shadowfax Wines, the scenic landscape surrounding the winery is the first thing that captivates your senses.
Native bush and vine-covered paddocks create a postcard-perfect backdrop, inviting you to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the vineyard.
The restaurant and winery sit upon a beautiful stretch of green grass surrounded by Australian native trees and shrubs, with the backdrop of the vineyard. Artistic sculptures are placed throughout the grounds and the building itself stands out with a vibrant red tone.
We loved the positive vibe. There were a lot of happy people there, the food was very good.
There were nice looking tables inside but, as we hadn’t made a reservation, there were none available. Instead, we opted for a picnic table outside which is not ideal for us oldies needing backrests.
I bought 2 or 3 bottles of their Shiraz which I shared at my wine club, to very good reviews.

The Cellar Door Experience
Visitors can explore the underground cellar door after descending a vibrant spiral staircase. Among the barrels of wine it’s a unique atmosphere, and an opportunity to gain insights into the intricate art of winemaking.
We were welcomed by the knowledgeable and friendly staff who were eager to guide us through the winery’s impressive selection. From crisp whites to bold reds, each is testament to the dedication and skill of their winemakers.
Dedicated to crafting high-quality, handcrafted wines, Shadowfax has a selection of Minnow wines sourced from its Werribee vineyard, alongside premium Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir produced at its Little Hampton vineyard in the Macedon Ranges.
The Cellar Door is open every day except Tuesday. Barrel Room tastings run for 45 minutes and can be booked for 11am & 3pm – Friday, Saturdays & Sunday.
A Foodie Delight
Shadowfax Restaurant boasts a menu that perfectly complements the wines, with locally sourced ingredients. Whether you’re a fan of robust reds or prefer the crispness of a Chardonnay, there’s a pairing to suit every palate.
From wood-fired pizzas to shared plates with fresh seafood, the menu offers a cacophony of enticing Mediterranean dishes. Each of the desserts is a work of art.
If you’re finding it hard to decide what to order, the four-course set menu with paired wines is an easy winner. Each dish is a chef’s favourite.
The restaurant is open for lunch only on Wednesday & Thursday and is open for lunch and dinner from Friday to Sunday. Operation hours are often extended over the warmer months, so remember to check the website.
Seating
We found the seating comfortable to savour our delicious food and wine.
On a nice day, al fresco dining is a stunning choice where you will be seated at a picnic table complete with vineyard views. Alternatively, the restaurant’s indoor dining offers a more intimate ambiance where the seats have back support.
Blankets are available to keep laps warm and if you so desire to sit out on the grass, picnic rugs can also be provided.
Sustainable Practices
Beyond the exquisite wines and enchanting atmosphere, Shadowfax Wines is committed to sustainability. The vineyard employs environmentally conscious practices, emphasising the importance of preserving the land for future generations. This commitment adds an extra layer of appreciation for visitors who value eco-friendly initiatives.
