What to Expect at AQC
If you’re wondering, What is AQC?, it’s the premier event for quilt and craft lovers in Australia!
Event Highlights:
- Quilt Show: The Quilt Show is the centrepiece of the convention, showcasing a stunning collection of quilts from Australia and around the world. The annual AQC Challenge is always a highlight, and this year’s theme, On the Map, promises to deliver even more breathtaking creations that blur the line between craft and art.
- Expo: For those looking to shop or learn, AQC Melbourne’s expo brings together quilting retailers from far and wide. You’ll find everything from fabrics, patterns, sewing machines, and quilting supplies.
- Classes and Workshops: AQC also features workshops and classes led by world-class quilting tutors, catering to everyone from beginners to seasoned quilters.
Terrie’s Experience
Melbourne City is wonderful, there is always something happening! The Craft and Quilt Show, held at the Exhibition Building, might not on first appearance be for everybody. However the unbelievably awesome, outstanding, quilts on display are just the same as going to an Art Gallery. These pieces really are ART.
Wandering through the Quilt Exhibition, there must have been about 100 pieces. I’m a senior who once again travelled by train from Geelong, joined by my daughter who loves crafts. We not only enjoyed the Quilts themselves but also had a lot of fun looking at the various stalls, which included materials, accessories, sewing machines, and other hand-crafted items like jewellery, bags, weaving, and even homemade makeup. So much to see and absorb.
There were also two excellent cafes where we ate delicious food. We chose Roast Lamb for lunch, followed by a shared yummy cheesecake. A wonderful outing and I look forward to going again next year.
