A Taste of Victorian Elegance
Since 1924, the Strangers Corridor within Victoria’s Parliament House has been welcoming guests to indulge in a high tea experience unlike any other. The grandeur of the wood-panelled walls, stained glass windows, and elegant chandeliers sets the stage for a memorable afternoon of sophistication and charm.

It’s very swish, with treats like finger sandwiches, pastries, and freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and preserves, all accompanied by premium teas and aromatic coffee. The exquisite crockery and elegant decor add a touch of sophistication.
The menu is thoughtfully curated to cater to various dietary requirements, with options for vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free preferences. From the traditional sandwich fillings to the decadent desserts, we enjoyed every bite.

I would never have dreamt of being in Parliament House. I’ve seen it on TV, in the news mainly, with politicians in the lower and upper house rooms having their arguments, and the steps of Parliament House always being a place for protestors!
So to have a “High Tea” for a Mother’s Day treat, followed by a guided tour of Parliament House was an unimagined experience. A very good experience. The High Tea in Strangers Corridor Restaurant was simply delightful. Champagne on arrival and the most gorgeous-looking plate of savoury and sweets, with cups of tea/coffee and the customary most scrumptious scones with jam and cream. I wore my pearls of course!
We had a table by a window that looked out onto the very green gardens. I could’ve stayed there very happily for hours.
