Aptly named Transit, the Transport Hotel’s rooftop bar in Melbourne, is an ideal destination for a quick drink before or after an outing in the city.
Accessible via a lift and opening from 3 pm on weekdays (midday on weekends), Transit Rooftop Bar caters well to those who prefer a relaxed afternoon experience.
With my retired parents in tow, we embarked on a delightful afternoon tipple at this charming rooftop bar nestled atop Federation Square. After a day of exploring the city, it was the perfect spot to slow down and savour our experience.

Transit Rooftop Bar Melbourne
Whether to enjoy a refreshing beverage, nibbles or just breathe in stunning views, visiting a Melbourne rooftop bar is a quintessential experience we just had to include on our visit list. Even with its central location, Transit Rooftop Bar still seems a little tucked away amid the key sights of Federation Square.
As you enter Transport Hotel, a lift to the left takes you to the second-floor rooftop.
An extensive drinks menu features cocktails, spritz, wine, beer and cider. To complement your beverage of choice, there’s a tempting variety of delicious bar snacks available as well.
Our plate of hummus was a generous size for three people to share. Paired with a glass of prosecco, this made for an ideal way to end our first day out for Seniors in Melbourne.

This rooftop bar was just lovely! We would never have thought of coming here, and we had such a nice time.
At 3 pm on a weekday, we practically had the place to ourselves. We headed outside to the balcony and admired the views across the Yarra river and down towards Southbank. While it was a little windy up there that day, plenty of tables inside offered the same vibrant atmosphere.
We found a cosy corner with very comfy armchairs and enjoyed a wind-down drink and snack after our big day of exploring.

Taxi Kitchen at Transport Hotel offers an extensive modern Australian menu with Asian influences. The entire place has a backdrop of cityside views. Whether you’re there for a special occasion or a casual meal, it’ll be a memorable experience.

Transit Rooftop Bar is situated on the top floor of Transport Hotel, accessible via a lift.
At the bar, we enjoyed the cosy atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. Noise levels weren’t too high in the mid-afternoon, and we imagine it would be more vibrant in the evenings and when hosting live music.
Accessible toilets are located on the mezzanine level of Transport Hotel, accessed via a lift.
